Fun Does Not Equal Happiness

This past weekend I went to Kings Island with my husband and 5 kids. We got there early and stayed until well after dark. We rode a lot of rides, and it was FUN! We had fun all day. I’ve learned through years of therapy that happiness is transient. You can’t be thrilled, super-excited happy all the time– that’s not realistic. You can, however, be generally happy day-to-day. You will maybe sometimes be sad, bored, upbeat, tired, stressed — but overall you can be generally happy.

I’ve seen people confuse “fun” events with being happy. Colts games, graduations, family parties– can all be fun- but don’t necessarily equal a general being of happiness.

Happiness can be achieved with a true understanding of your own self, an understanding of your issues, and finding peace in knowing you are loved by others and loved by God and that you have purpose as a human being that God made.

I have been to Kings Island before– but I wasn’t happy– I just had fun. This past weekend, I was truly happy. I treasured the gift of time with my husband and children, and I have learned to embrace my issues, and I am committed to work on them. How committed are you to working towards happiness rather than occasional moments of fun?
